The first event of the grand saga that is this game unfolded early on, though that early eventuality was foreshadowed quite amply. Nyx told Richard that she was going to store bodies at Richard’s place. He gave her the go ahead. The bodies were set up in the second floor guest room (Room STE2).
The Sisters of Hippolyta looked into Rupert Kurtz and passed along information to the cabal. According to his records, Dr. Kurtz knows the Club of Men are interested in young women, but believes them to be 14 to 17 and consenting. Trading in favours and perks in exchange for photo shoots or willing ‘company’. He doesn’t know they rape/murder. Kurtz seemed to be resistant to mind reading, likely due to his personal willpower and being a trained psychologist. It’s possible the therapist wasn’t recording some things.
Nyx had a meeting with Starshine and Charlotte regarding the Cult of Lilith. Charlotte turned out to know something about them, but was reluctant to allow herself to be identified as a source. She mentioned that there were probably several groups associated with Lilith in the area. One in particular had some contacts with some Verbena and was ‘directed’ by a figure purporting to be Lilith. She mentioned she would speak with her mentor to see if there was more information she could provide. Starshine then mentioned that the Grange was a place that has been visited before by Lilith.
Nigan paid a visit to Valerie Beauchamp to inquire about the Cult of Lilith. She also mentioned there might be several groups in the area using Lilith iconography. Two of them seemed to be occult in nature. One of which was a group of people that randomly turned up at Lake Ontario to do… something. Their meetings are associated with major phases of the moon, though not the same phases, and not always the same people. The second seemed to have associations with vampires in the city, potentially vampires that had been there for centuries. While it sounded like the Triumvirate, that is merely an assumption of the Cabal at this point.
After reconvening at Richard’s, the cabal headed to the house of Calvin James. His Rosedale house had several toys about the lawn, showing that he has a family. An 11 year old boy rode up to him on a bike, hugged him, and headed inside. The cabal opted to return for him later, hopefully when the rest of his family wouldn’t be involved.
Heading to Gerald’s, the cabal decided to take him down. Sneaking around the house, Nigan tripped and nearly made a disturbance, alerting Gerald to their presence. His totem Glitch however intervened on his behalf, causing a car accident to distract from the bungle. Once around the back of the house, Nigan picked the lock. Once the cabal crossed the threshold of the house, Richard’s presence triggered the warding there and alerted Gerald to the cabal’s presence. Nigan asked the house if anyone else was home, and it told him no. Richard and Nyx stormed the library then and knocked Gerald unconscious. Nyx then sat down and, with Sabine’s help, entered Gerald’s mind and shattered the wards there.
With Gerald thereby exposed, a deal was hammered out. Gerald would live, but in exchange he would provide information on the Nephandus, agree to not use his magic to terrorize people any more, and to cooperate with the police to put himself in jail. Gerald informed the cabal that while the Arcane rating of the Nephandi did indeed work upon him, he was able to identify the accent of the Nephandus as French Algerian. He had been around the Club of Men since about the end of last year. Liam knew the Nephandus before they were introduced to the Club. Gerald then agreed to call Calvin James over so the cabal could ensure an accident befell the fellow. Upon arrival, Calvin James was incinerated by a fireball. Nigan called in Detective Stonetree to take Gerald to jail, take his confession, and put him through the system. It was agreed that if needed, Stonetree could name Nigan as involved in the case, possibly working as a consultant.
At Hermetic chantry, Mabon ap Modron and Meskhenet Mazu had a bit of a tiff. Mabon asked Meskhenet to abandon her official Hermetic work in favour of expediting Sidhe research requests. After some heated words, Mabon was provoked into challenging Mezkhenet to Certamen. While Mabon acquitted himself well, Meskhenet dealt with him handily despite not employing her familiar. The Sidhe were in attendance and congratulated Meskhenet on her victory, despite the precedent it set for Hermetic versus Sidhe research needs. Richard managed to convince Octavia Grey to have dinner and discuss the history of Certamen, and Octavia invited Sorin Hildebrand to join them as an expert on the subject.
With the Cult of Lilith still a mystery and the French Algerian Nephandi still at large, what will the cabal do next?
