Awaiting the rest of the cabal, Richard and Nigan were approached by Nyx in the Old City Hall. She had wandered to the clock tower on location, approached the locked door, opened the locked door, entered the locked door, and then was outside the clock tower door again with the door locked. With the rest of the cabal in tow, she returned to the clock tower and climbed back to the summit. There, the cabal met an anasi of some unknown name that was living inside of a static node. It explained the clock tower was it’s home. The cabal warned the anasi of the existence of the Nephandi and told him that they’d appreciate being notified if he turned up in the Old City Hall at some point. He agreed that he might do that.
Next, the cabal headed out to the Gibralter Point Lighthouse using a boat that Richard rented and bringing a keg of beer. They found when they arrived that the lighthouse was a powerful node with a neutral resonance. They examined it for signs of spells and discovered a pair of wards. The first, relatively obvious, was a relatively weak ward that was designed to repel entities of various sorts. The second was a very well hidden, much more powerful ward designed to contain entities that entered the tower, and alert someone to their entry. Analyzing the ward, it turned out to be blood magic. It was a theurgic spell, most likely developed in Renaissance Tuscany. The wards had a resonance of Dynamic (Creative), Entropy (Coercive, Primal, Subtle), and Static (Focused, Questioning). The ward had a method to cross it by mentally and spiritually placing oneself in the proper demeanor, one of the Sepherotic states, though which one could not be divined. Using Forces, Nyx was able to peer into the tower and do a visual search of the interior (take that scryers!). She discovered nothing out of the ordinary through most of the lighthouse, but the basement had an area totally unlit that had the makings of a ritual room.
Opening the door to the lighthouse using some handy tools, Nigan called into the lighthouse and talked with the spirit within over the threshold. He was rather forthcoming and told the party of the woman who visited the place. He was able to provide a description of the visitor, Nina Chigi. She visited the island roughly once a month using a boat called the Liquid Asset. She typically visited during important moon phases. Her most recent visit was two weeks prior. Her methodology seemed to be High Ritual, and involved the use of religious costumes (including a nun habit sometimes) and other props, but mostly just involved meditation. He did not know what her rituals were intended to do. When asked about minons, he mentioned he noticed that sometimes Nina would stare into the eyes of an owl. The cabal left the spirit the keg of beer as a thanks for his information, which he seemed to approve of.
Upon leaving the lighthuse, Meskhenet Mazu asked the cabal to visit her at Casaloma. As well, Idris Powell wanted to speak with Nigan. The cabal headed right over and met Idris out front of the castle. He asked Nigan for his take on the King in Yellow located at The Grange. He also asked Nigan if the Dreamspeakers were involved with the spirit, to ensure that if he took action he wasn’t going to be messing up any plans that the Tradition had. Nigan informed him that there were no Dreamspeaker plans he knew of. He passed on a gentle invitation to join Idris and Carina White when they went to confront the spirit.
Entering the library, Mezkhenet informed the cabal that she had made some calls and gained further information about the demon Ibliss. According to a journal, during the 7th Century, Astare and her immortal children assaulted the Reliquary of the demon. The Reliquary was a magical device that allowed Ibliss to remain on Earth instead of being banished to the Abyss. Many of the immortals were beheaded in the assault, but they did succeed in destroying the Reliquary, a network of tunnels. Theoretically, this should banish Ibliss back to the Abyss. However, that seemed contrary to current events, as Liam Hayden should have been unable to give power to a demon in the Abyss, and that is what he had been doing.
Venturing into the NWO’s territory, the cabal visited the Royal Alexandra Theatre. There, they obtained tickets to Nina’s new show Gypsie, which she was the leading lady in. Thanks to the promotional posters about in the theatre, the cabal all found themselves Awed by Nina’s presence, despite her absence. They took time to visit the private box for their tickets and looked about. They found that the ‘hauntings’ of the theatre were due to the building being a shallowing that would occasionally become shallow enough to allow people and spirits to pass through if they had the required knowledge. The ‘hauntings’ were incidental manifestations of spirits occasionally taking a sit down, noises in the rooms spirits dropping thins in the Umbra, and other incidental things like that. There were no permanent occupying spirits that the cabal noticed.
What followed was a whirlwind tour of the remaining spirit sites. Soldiers’ Tower, the cabal convinced the spirit repairman working on the roof to alert Nigan if the nephandi showed up. A visit to Andrew Mercer Reformatory for Women led to a visitation of the ‘dark spirit’ that tried to burn out Nigan’s eyes, but he managed to avoid the burning light. No sign of the nephandi’s resonance was found. 1 Toronto Street turned out to be not haunted, and proved to be a shallowing and anchorhead to a horizon realm of some sort. Gooderham and Worts Distillery was haunted by the owner, who also agreed to alert the cabal if he noticed the presence of the nephandi. Old Don Jail turned out to be another shallowing to the Underworld, it’s lowest layers. It proved an easy crossing point for Spectres and it’s presence led prisoners to dark places, causing many to die from violence or suicide.
After lining up their tickets to Nina’s show, and setting up an investment meeting with her regarding Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, in order to bring her out to meet with the cabal. Other than that, the cabal wrapped up their activities to break for Spring. With that, the first spring passed.
What would summer bring? Tune in next time to find out.
